Even if you aren't as tough as Bad Elmer, you can still drink with him. This porter is a medium-bodied beer, brewed with lots of roasted malt, giving it flavors of coffee, liquorice, and chocolate. It's rich, creamy, and characteristically dark yet extremely smooth. The initial light sweetness is followed by a clean, dry, roasty finish.

Campside has developed a loyal following with its showcase of the most interesting and effervescent American hops. Beginning in 2018, Campside will transition from a Session IPA to an American Pale Ale and will be available year round. All of the fragrant citrus and tropical character of late additions of Cascade, Simcoe, and Mosaic hops will remain, supported by a moderate malt backbone and defined by balanced drinkability. Late additions of hops allow the distinct fragrance of grapefruit, apricot and pine to be preserved as much as possible in the finished beer. With a crisp, but subtle bitterness, a balanced malt character, and a 5.4% ABV, this is the perfect year round beverage for those who think flavor is just as important as refreshment.

In 1902, Walter Bruhn, the son of German immigrants, created a recipe for a new pilsener beer named Champagne Velvet. Over the next 50 years it grew to become one of Indiana's most popular beers, a go-to for many of our grandparents and great-grandparents. It was "The Beer with the Million Dollar Flavor," which wasn't just marketing fluff; it was actually insured with a $1 million policy. Industrial consolidation took down this regional favorite and the recipe went missing for many years until a fan rescued the hand-written recipe from deep in a trademark portfolio. Upland reformulated the recipe using that scrap of paper and proudly brings this Midwestern legend back to life. Champagne Velvet has a refreshingly light pilsener body with some sweet complexities given off by the corn malt used in this recipe, making this the perfect lager. It's smooth and light, but still full of flavor, the perfect everyday beer for craft beer drinkers and a step up for domestic drinkers.

India Pale Ale originated when the British added excessive amounts of hops to help preserve their ales for long journeys to their citizens overseas, including to India. Our Dragonfly India Pale Ale is true to this tradition, featuring seven hop additions to create a powerful hop profile. A solid malt base, however, tempers the bitter American hops, giving Dragonfly a balance not often found in this style. The end product is a well-balanced, malty beer with the crisp taste of hops and an exceptionally floral nose. Dragonfly is our most popular beer, serving as an introduction to craft beer for many and a longstanding favorite for many more.

Hoosier Gameday Lager was created as the first ever Indiana University Athletics branded beer. It's a collaboration between Upland and thousands of beer-loving IU sports fans. Over the course of several weeks, we sent out surveys via social media to be answered by any of our followers over the age of 21. After over 10,000 completed surveys, clear preferences were determined for the name, label design and key attributes of the beer itself. This recipe is a reflection of the those preferences: a crisp, drinkable, but still flavorful lager with a moderate, sessionable level of alcohol. Hoosier Gameday Lager can be classified as a Vienna Lager. The easy way to think of this style is that it falls in between a pilsner like Champagne Velvet, and a richer, more malty lager like Oktoberfest. Far from the cheap light lagers consumed by the gallon that are stereotypically associated with sporting events, this recipe incorporates two base malts kilned and toasted to differing levels of richness, three more flavorful specialty malts to create a layering of subtle toasty and slightly caramelly flavor along with two different hop varieties for a light floral, earthy background note. The result is a beer that strikes the perfect balance of delicious malty goodness and refreshing drinkability. The Vienna malt that creates the bulk of the flavor for this brew was malted and toasted to perfection by Indiana's own Sugar Creek Malt in Lebanon Indiana.

Little Dragon, sister beer of fan-favorite Dragonfly IPA, is a low-calorie India Pale Ale, brewed with a select choice of grains and rotating hops to keep things refreshing. With each release, we'll re-launch with a new hop variety for a fresh flavor profile. While the hops will change from time to time, the easy-drinking 99 calories and 4% ABV are here to stay. Have your hops and drink them too with Little Dragon Low-Cal IPA.
Patio Cat is everyone's favorite companion on long summer days. Lo-cal & sessionable, this summer ale boasts strong flavors of citrusy tropical hops that are complemented by a succulent dose of guava. Always down for a chill sesh but definitely ready to run wild too, Patio Cat is thirst-quenching & refreshing with light body & minimal bitterness.

While we age our sour ales in barrels for months, even years, we took a different spin on Petal to the Kettle. We fermented it right in the kettle to give it a distinctively tart finish. The grapefruit, peach, and strawberry flavor complement the aromas of rose and hibiscus petals that give it a pinkish-purple hue. Go ahead, take it for a cruise and enjoy those summer flowers before they fade.

Tropical Vortex continues Upland's tradition of brewing "out of season" in a rebellion against winter. Rather than submit to the doldrums of the season by drowning our sorrows in heavy, dark beers, we choose to look on the sunny side of life by brewing a beer that invokes the warmth and brightness of summer. Tropical Vortex is a bright, crisp, and refreshing IPA using Galaxy and Waimea hops grown in the Southern Hemisphere. Inspired by the Brut IPAs originating on the West Coast, this beer is crystal clear, dry, and effervescent with a very mild bitterness and powerful flavors of passionfruit, peach, citrus and mango. The perfect beer for wishful drinking because, while it's winter in the Midwest, it's always summer somewhere.

If you play your hand right, you will be enjoying the vibrant flavors of Two of Tarts. Pouring bright golden orange with a glowing translucent haze, this gose has the unmistakable flavor of mango and passion fruit and is slightly salty with notes of lemon and a crisp, dry finish. It's a sure bet that it will make a doubly pleasant citrus impression.

Upland Wheat Ale is a clean, balanced, refreshing Belgian-Style Wheat ale that has won countless awards over the years, including a gold medal at the World Beer Cup. With a unique blend of citrus and spice, our Wheat Ale features grains of paradise, coriander and orange peel that pair perfectly with the white wheat. The Wheat is crisp, bready and refreshing with a tartness, slight cloudiness, and traditional citrus and spice qualities that come from the use of orange peel and the unique African spice grains of paradise.

We chose ingredients that were undeniably refreshing: ginger and lemon. To amplify this thirst-quenching quality we chose a locally sourced yeast strain that produces a mild tartness to this finished beer. To soften that tartness and add a touch of electrolytes, we included a small amount of pink Himalayan sea salt. Refreshingly session-able, Breaking Away is the perfect post-ride quencher.

Juiced in Time is a New England-style IPA that's absolutely dripping with ripe tropical fruit and bold juicy citrus flavors. Wheat and oats were added to the malt profile along with a special mineral treatment to the water to create body and smooth texture. Virtually all the hops were reserved for after the boil to minimize bitterness and amplify flavor and aroma. From the glowing orange appearance to the soft creamy mouthfeel and delicate sweetness, this beer is everything delicious about tropical fruit juice embodied in a dangerously drinkable IPA.

No season is as synonymous with beer as autumn, when the most storied beer festival of them all, Oktoberfest, takes place in Munich, Germany. Since 1810, this celebration of good food, good company, and, most importantly, good beer, has most prominently featured Marzen-style lager-so much so that many refer to the beer simply as Oktoberfest. Our version is an authentic representation of a classic style, rich and malty without sacrificing any of the smooth, crisp character that defines true German lagers. It has a deep copper color complemented with notes of caramel and toffee. A blend of three German hop varieties provides perfect balance and a clean finish to this autumnal favorite. Bronze medal winner at the 2008 BTI World Beer Championships.

Ever had a chocolate mint? Or, maybe a fancy coffee with mint? Delicious, right?!? That's the inspiration for this beer. The rich chocolaty, roasty coffee, and molasses flavors that combine with the oaky, bourbon, and vanilla flavors of barrel aging are complimented by the subtle peppermint to make a delicious treat. The mint is gentle, not overpowering, allowing the barrel aged beer to be the forefront. Peppermint tickles the nose gently in the initial aroma and leave a cool smooth freshness to the finish. Its like a Christmas party all up in your mouth.

Wood-Aged Sours

Inspired by the traditional brewing methods of Belgium lambic brewing, BASIS is an American take on the classic beer style. White oak barrels from Oliver Winery were acquired in 2006, which led to the initial beer development, as oak barrels are the classic aging vessels for the style.

Deep blackberry, soft tannins, a fruit pie of a beer.

Boysenberry is a barrel-aged sour ale that combines our take on a traditional Lambic-style base beer, with a fruit not typically found in traditional Lambics. We ferment our base beer, Basis, for six to eight months in oak tanks to produce tart flavors, fruity notes and funky character. Then, we blend individual batches before aging on boysenberry fruit for an additional month to extract the perfect balance of fruit flavor. We bottle conditioned this beer, resulting in a fine carbonation and spritzy mouthfeel.

Our friends at Oliver Winery have had a hand in our Sour Ale program since the beginning. The first oak barrels acquired by Upland were purchased from Oliver. We have released our Terrior Series for a few years now. The Chambourcin grape is grown in Indiana by wine makers for dry reds and rose'. We have used Chambourcin in our Oak and Rose' and Oak Timbre, which has only used Basis in the blending process. With the nice tannins that come from the skins of the Chambourcin grape we thought it would pair well with our flanders red style base beer. Devined pours a deep red to ruby in color and has aromas of red wine, dried fruit, cherry and fig. The flavor is malty with red wine, lemon, cherry, dark fruit with a medium bodied tart finish.

Since Taxman opened its doors in 2014 they have been one of our favorite breweries here at Upland. With Taxman focused on Belgian inspired beers and Uplands Sour Brewery focused on Belgian inspired beers, it was only a matter of time before we teamed up to make a beer. A complex spice and citrus presence with a subtle fruity aroma. Low hop character with a hint of Brettanomyces. Spicy, fruity and citrus flavors compliment the grainy finish with a low level of tartness. Finishes dry with medium-light body.

After spending a weekend with our friends at Blackberry Farm Brewery foraging in the Smoky Mountains, we brought back several yeast specimens and isolated a few strains to begin the fermentation process. We collaborated with the Blackberry Farm brewers on a recipe to echo and enhance the unique characteristics of these yeast strains. Found is a delicate and tart wild ale that's golden in appearance and brimming with lemon, clove & apple notes which are complemented by a dry and refreshing finish.

This beer was developed through extensive experimentation by our brewers with different combinations of dried fruits and spices, using Basis as the base beer. Iridescent is a refreshing blonde sour ale, with aromas of apricot and ginger that are followed by tart and tropical flavors after aging in wine barrels for 3-4 months. As the name implies, the flavor of this sour beer appears to change subtly with each sip.

One of our most sought-after beers, Pawpaw is a golden sour ale that was created by aging our base sour blonde ale, Basis, on fresh pawpaw fruit from Indiana. The Pawpaw, (also known as Asiminia triloba or the Indiana Banana) is the largest fruit bearing plant native to North America. Due to the lack of commercial cultivation and the quick perishable nature of the fruit, it is a highly prized foraged fruit.

We first began experimenting with Belgian-style ales in 2006, and fresh, whole peaches were selected as one of the first fruits to add to the sour beer that we had fermented for over eight months in white oak barrels. We use 7,000 pounds of fresh Indiana peaches from Huber's Orchard and Winery in Starlight, Indiana, destoning the peach pits by hand before adding to the barrels. Peach is a fruited ale with gold and straw colors that shine upon pouring, and zesty amounts of carbonation. Fresh peach aromas meld with floral and wine-like notes. Wonderful peach flavors follow in the taste, accompanied by refreshing tartness with a dry finish and mouth-watering tanginess.

Sometimes a name says it all. Prim was inspired by blending the names of the two main ingredients, plum and cardamom. This sour ale uses Basis as the base beer, adding whole plums to capture the sweet fruit flavor and tartness of the skins, and the incredibly aromatic cardamom. Prim is aged in wine barrels for 4-6 months, further intensifying the complex flavors of this brew. It's tart, fruity, herbaceous, and very refreshing.

After extensive experimentation and feedback from our retail staff, customers, and brewing team, Revive was one of the first beers released out of the Wood Shop. The base beer is Basis, which was inspired by traditional brewing methods of Belgium brewing. The beer is aged for three to four months in oak barrels with pineapple fruit and whole chamomile flowers. That sweet tanginess of fruit combines beautifully with the floral aroma for a tart, dry, and refreshing sour ale.

Originally brewed for the Sour Power Mix Pack and available in individual packaging only at our hospitality locations, Sight for SourEyes is the tropical twin of our most popular tart ale, Two of Tarts. Brewed from the same base recipe, Sight for SourEyes is a pleasantly tart, crisp, and refreshing tropical gose with pineapple added mid-fermentation. While it has the same thirst quenching, slightly salty profile as its award-winning partner, the fruit switcheroo makes for a surprisingly different beer. Try tasting SFSE alongside Two of Tarts to see what a difference the fruit can make.

A Shaloobys release. Lemon and grapefruit zest layered over our base sour. Built to wow.
