About

Sustainability.

Independence means making the long call, not the easy one. We measure what we use, we share what we learn, and we keep raising the bar on what a Midwest brewery can do for its place.

Solar at Profile

Our rooftop solar installation at the Profile Tap Room & Brewery offsets roughly 22% of the facility's annual electricity. It's the largest single-site renewable investment in our history — and the first of several planned across the company.

Spent grain, fed back

Every barrel of beer leaves behind a barrel of spent grain. Ours goes to a rotation of local Indiana farms as cattle feed and to a partner composter for everything that doesn't head to the pasture. Zero spent grain to landfill, every week of the year.

Water, hops, and the long horizon

We track water-to-beer ratios at every facility and invest in fixes — from CIP-cycle redesigns to heat recovery — that take years to pay back. We source as many ingredients as we reasonably can from Midwest growers, and we publish what we learn so other Indiana brewers don't have to start from zero.

Independent Craft

Upland is a proud member of the Brewers Association Independent Craft Brewer Seal program and a signatory to the BA's Sustainability Benchmarking Tools. Independence is the precondition for everything on this page. We intend to keep it.
